The herbs in these compresses are activated through steam heat. You will use a steamer/electric rice cooker to heat and activate them. Fill the basin with water and place the compresses on the tray that sits on the water basin (the vegetable tray) and cover them with a hand towel and wash cloth (instead of using the lid). Allow them to steam for 15 - 20 minutes. We do not recommend using a microwave, as it could destroy the herbal properties and it could also be a fire hazard.
Cold method: If you'd like to use these compresses as a cold therapy, then go through the above process and put them in the freezer for 30 minutes.
Massage the compresses into areas of tightness and soreness. You can use them during therapy treatments on others or for self-massage - think of them as hot tennis balls so you can get targeted pressure.
Please use caution with these compresses as the steam will be VERY HOT. Keep them wrapped in the hand towel with first application.
